Our animal shelter was founded in August 2012. A community member and animal lover, James "Bo" Bryant left a legacy when he donated the funds to begin the construction of our shelter. Before 2012, animal control was operated with a few holding kennels behind the parish jail. Now, we are able to operate a full-time animal shelter thanks to Mr. Bryant's generosity ad love of animals. Our parish has moved from saving less than 10% of the parish's stray population, to now saving more than 95% of the stray population per year!
Our Mission at WFAHS is to provide a safe, healthy, and caring environment for the animals under our care as we search for their original owners or a caring adoptive home. Our mission is also to help reduce the pet population in our parish.

WFHAS is a closed intake shelter. This means we do not accept owner surrenders. In rare cases, surrenders are accepted and special conditions apply.
Our shelter space must remain available for stray animals of the parish. If our shelter is at capacity, dogs or cats may be placed on a waiting list until space becomes available.
We provide a TNR (Trap-Neuter-Release) service for our community, You can read more about this program on our Resources Page.
