OUR MISSION

Our Mission at WFAHS is to provide a safe, healthy, and caring environment for the animals under our care as we search for their original owners or a caring adoptive home. Our mission is also to help reduce the pet population in our parish.

Who we are

Our animal shelter was founded in August 2012. A community member and animal lover, James "Bo" Bryant left a legacy when he donated the funds to begin the construction of our shelter. Before 2012, animal control was operated with a few holding kennels behind the parish jail. Now, we are able to operate a full-time animal shelter thanks to Mr. Bryant's generosity and love of animals. Our parish has moved from saving less than 10% of the parish's stray population, to now saving more than 95% of the stray population per year!

The 8th annual Wags & Whiskers Gala will be held on April 29, 2023, at Hemingbough in St. Francisville, with proceeds benefiting the West Feliciana Animal Humane Society (WFAHS).
We have not been able to host this vital annual event since the onset of the COVID pandemic in 2020. During this period, not only have many of our family and friends suffered greatly, but the unforgotten animal family members (our furry friends) have been challenged and need care. Overcrowding and financial conditions have strained WFAHS animal shelter operations. Many families had to surrender beloved pets, not only due to family illness, but also due to inflation causing increased costs of veterinary care, food expenses, and general care.

Our shelter is overwhelmed with requests to accept pet surrenders and receive abandoned dogs and cats rescued by parish residents. As a result, WFAHS has been busting at the seams rescuing these beautiful creatures and providing care and protection for them until they are adopted. Animals who are found are the lucky ones, for they have a second chance at finding a loving Forever-Home through WFAHS.

Our sincere thanks go out to all those loving parish residents who have stood by us over these last years, providing support in the form of donations, foster homes and other special requests.

However, in order to continue fulfilling West Feliciana Parish's animal shelter needs while maintaining our high standards of care for our animals, this year’s greatest need is financial assistance.

Please help us celebrate the WFAHS’s 14th year serving West Feliciana Parish with your donation, and by joining us at the Wags & Whiskers Gala!
