Our Mission at WFAHS is to provide a safe, healthy, and caring environment for the animals under our care as we search for their original owners or a caring adoptive home. Our mission is also to help reduce the pet population in our parish.
Our animal shelter was founded in August 2012. A community member and animal lover, James "Bo" Bryant left a legacy when he donated the funds to begin the construction of our shelter. Before 2012, animal control was operated with a few holding kennels behind the parish jail. Now, we are able to operate a full-time animal shelter thanks to Mr. Bryant's generosity and love of animals. Our parish has moved from saving less than 10% of the parish's stray population, to now saving more than 95% of the stray population per year!
BISSELL Pet Foundation's Empty the Shelters is back at WFAHS from Dec. 1 - 17 along with 380+ shelters in 43 states! Adopt a vaccinated, microchipped and spayed or neutered pet for just $50 during this period. With shelters nationwide at critical capacity, we need your help to take as many pets as possible from shelter kennels to the couches of loving homes.
